There are a lot of jobs that no longer exist due to the advancements in technology that have made these jobs unable to catch up with the pace of modern life. In this article we will be talking about the matchmaker job that is no longer essential as it used to be before.

The matchmaker job still exists in spite of social media and advanced means of communication. Even though our society is now open-minded and women get well education and has entered the market, the job of the matchmaker still receives a lot of publicity in rural towns that is far from urban areas.

History of Matchmakers

The matchmaker is a job that has been descended through generations. It’s based on investigating and searching thoroughly about the people of interest and their social status and every minor detail related to them. Lately, this job has been revived again due to the increase of the percentage of unmarried girls. The reason behind that is the huge increase in the prices of dowries and the overestimated conditions that parents of the bride oblige the groom with.

The matchmaker between now and then

A woman named Om Masood that works as a matchmaker said “I have been working in this field for 30 years and have inherited it from my grandparents. My job imposes a lot of responsibilities upon me as matchmaking between two people and building a family together is not of an easy task. The job of a matchmaker is really difficult nowadays in comparison to before because there are a lot of unlicensed matchmakers whether in real life or on social media which made the world like a small town open for everyone. Sadly, matchmakers on social media deceive people for the sake of money; however, their frauds are discovered quickly because they neither have the experience nor credibility. Most of the marriages that they are responsible for fail and end up with divorce in less than a week.”

People against the matchmaker job

Some experts see that the matchmaker role does not align with the modern technology and the open world that we live in now. Social media now allows sharing and browsing personal photos, besides there are a lot of dating apps without any expenses. What’s more important is that guys of this generation prefer to marry the girl they love without the interference of anyone.

A lot of jobs have ceased to exist because of the nature of our current time and some others updated themselves to catch up with the new advances. The matchmaker job somehow has managed to remain till this day; however, people should be careful and don’t give their information to anyone who is not trustworthy.
