Moreover, the action of creating this requires a ginormous amount of effort and skill so you could finally see these beautiful results. Now I’ll take you on a journey using my time-turning machine to exactly when this was firstly originated centuries ago.

Papyrus is one of the creativity-based plants, it was used in Ancient Egypt & Greece to form papers. The name Papyrus is derived from the pharaonic word (pa par a) which means the royal victory & is specifically related to the royal family. It was commonly used in the Nile Delta centuries ago & this is what makes people immediately think of Upper Egypt the moment they hear the word Papyrus.

Eastern Egypt was known for the golden hands of heritage crafts, Papyrus particularly required all the magical physical and cognitive skills. In the 70s, a professor in the Faculty of Arts bought some papyrus canes to try to make use of them, then it turned into a small business that only included planting a small land and then teaching people how to create papers using it. Bit by bit, a farm-based object turned into a colorful handmade masterpiece. Who would’ve thought that a teeny tiny land of papyrus could literally turn into a source of living to a whole village?

A journey coming to an end

The only nightmare that occurred during this beautiful daydream was the Covid 19 pandemic. The moment it took place, everything fell apart. It did not only end a whole career of most people in Al Keramos Village, but also made this profession at risk of going extinct. The additional factor of the decline of tourism in one of the countries of the seven wonders made it even worse that now all those who worked creating these masterpieces can’t find a way to put them under the spotlights.
